Usage

PREPARATION

Sand the timber with 180 – 240 grit paper (depending on species). Ideally air blow debris off the surface and wipe clean with a white cotton cloth. Stir thoroughly to agitate residue in the bottom of the tin. Trial the stain and subsequent clear lacquer on an off-cut of the same timber substrate to establish the colour is suitable.

APPLICATION

The application of Harmony Solvent Stains enhances the grain structure and balances the natural colour differences out. They can be applied by wiping on and off using a rag, spraying or brushing. If spraying we recommend using a spray gun (pressure/suction/gravity) with 1.4 mm to 1.8 mm tip. If fine staining use a spray gun with 1.0 or 1.2 mm tip. Spray application is ideal because of its penetration rate and the quick drying nature of stains. If brushing we recommend a good quality synthetic brush for an ultra-smooth finish. If rag applying always use a white cotton cloth as opposed to coloured to ensure dyes from the fabric do not contaminate the staining.

AFTER CARE

The stained wood can be finished by spray with any kind of varnish or oil, purposed for wooden surfaces. Application should always be done in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. In order to prolong the durability of colour we recommend to use the varnish with high resistance to UV.
